The Viola Longhorn Golf season is underway!

The Longhorn and Lady Longhorn golf teams traveled to Cherokee Village South Golf Course for our first match of the season. Out of six teams, our boys’ team finished 3rd—missing 2nd place by just six strokes. We had two boys tie for the 7th best individual score out of 24 golfers, with another narrowly missing the top 10.

There weren’t as many girls’ teams or players at this match, but our girls competed hard and all finished with respectable scores. It was a great first match, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the season!

There will be a called meeting of the Viola School Board at 5pm, Tuesday, July 22nd on the school campus in the administration building board room. The agenda is for personnel matters only.

On Wednesday, July 23rd at 11:30, the Viola School Board will have a work session in the schools cafeteria. The school board and other members of the community will see a demonstration from it's food service management company School Eats.

Please join us on July 24, 2025 for new student orientation and get ready for an exciting new school year! It will be held in the High School Office from 4-7 PM. Please be sure to bring your child's Social Security card, birth certificate, immunization records, and any previous school information that you have.

Please call the High School Office at 870-458-2213 for more information, or to schedule an alternate time to get your child registered for the upcoming school year.

The July meeting of the Viola School Board is being moved to Wednesday, July 9th at 6:30pm in the the boardroom of the administration building.

The Viola School District is accepting bids for the 2025-2026 school year for the following: Gas/Diesel and Propane Service. Bids should be submitted by noon on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2025, to the Superintendent's Office. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact us at 870-458-2323. Friendly reminder that our Annual Balloon Warfare Robotics Camp will be held next week! Registration is from 8:30 am to 9 am on Monday for any elementary student entering 3rd grade and up! Gale Mize is excited to join the Longhorn family as the next School Counselor. Originally from Mountain Home, AR, Gale holds a BSBA from the University of Phoenix, as well as a Master's in Teaching and School Counseling from the University of Central Arkansas. Outside of school, Gale enjoys spending time with family, especially the grandbabies, and loves camping, fishing, hunting, and traveling. Gale looks forward to being a part of the Longhorn family.

I just want to take a moment and say thank you to the elementary staff for recognizing me during the retirement luncheon for the others. It was completely unexpected. I have really enjoyed my time here at Viola, and I will miss everyone.

Austin Gardner is proud to call Viola his lifelong home. Born and raised in the community, Viola has always held a special place in his heart. He and his wife, Jessica, feel grateful to be raising their two children, Bryson and Zoey, in the very place where their roots run deep. Family, sports, and the outdoors have always played a central role in Austin’s life. His involvement in athletics growing up inspired him to pursue a degree in education, with the goal of becoming both a teacher and a coach. Now, as he steps into the role of head coach for the Viola Longhorns, Austin considers it an incredible honor—a dream come true. He and his family are excited to be part of the Longhorn family and look forward to growing alongside the team and the community. Hook ’Em!

ATTENTION BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS There will be a Jr High and Sr High boys basketball meeting on June 2nd in the Viola main gym. We will have a short meeting and then have a practice so bring practice clothes. A summer schedule with practice and camp dates will be handed out during this time. All boys basketball players that will be in grades 7-9 in the 2025-2026 school year will meet at 12:30 and be done by 2:30. All boys basketball players that will be in grades 10-12 in the 2025-2026 school year will meet at 2:30 and be done by 4:30.
