The Viola Junior High track teams had a strong showing at the Junior 1A/2A District Track Meet held Wednesday, April 22, at Brockwell.
Viola athletes competed in 53 entries throughout the meet, with several athletes earning top five finishes in both individual and relay events. The Junior Girls team had an outstanding day, finishing 2nd overall in the district. The Junior Boys team also represented Viola well, finishing 7th overall.
Several Viola athletes brought home first-place finishes. The 4x800 Meter Relay team of Preslee Winter, Maylee Adams, Marlee Wray, and Morgan Newberry placed 1st. Preslee Winter earned 1st place in both the 1600 Meter Run and the 800 Meter Run. The girls 200 Meter Relay team of Kyra James, Karsyn Johnson, Harper Rowden, and Morgan Newberry also finished 1st.
Viola also earned several strong relay finishes. The 100 Meter Relay team of Karsyn Johnson, Harper Rowden, Kyra James, and Morgan Newberry also placed 2nd. The 400 Meter Relay team of Karsyn Johnson, Maylee Adams, Marlee Wray, and Preslee Winter finished 2nd as well.
Individual top five finishes included Harper Rowden placing 4th in Long Jump and 2nd in the 300 Meter Hurdles, Morgan Newberry placing 2nd in the 100 Meter Dash, Maylee Adams placing 3rd in the 1600 Meter Run and 4th in the 800 Meter Run, Karsyn Johnson placing 3rd in the 400 Meter Run, Marlee Wray placing 3rd in the 300 Meter Hurdles, and Kyra James placing 5th in the 200 Meter Run.
The boys 400 Meter Relay team of Landen Hutson, Bayler Wright, Rystin Cotter, and Travis Wilson also earned a top five finish, placing 5th.
